KEEN BOWLING TOURNAMENT

WIN FOR LOCAL TEAM

The annual Labour Day Tournament between teams from the Taneatua and Whakatane Bowling Clubs, took place in Whakatane last Monday. The weather was line but cloudy and the greens in excellent order enabling a good standard of bowls throughout. Entries were Slightly up on last year and there was also a keener spirit of competition. The play-off between the winners of Section A (Howat) and section B (Moody) was won by the former by 8 points to 6. The game was watched by a considerable gallery and the winner received warm applause. Details of the play were as under: Section A: Black, Salmon, C. G. Patersoai, Baxter (s) wins; O'Rourke, Pearson, Francis, Hunt (s) 2 wins; Dines, Drube, E. J. Bell, Foster 2 wins; Derecourt, Boon, Grant, Chamberlain 3% wins; Butler, Bridger, Marsden, G. Paterson 2 wins; Smith, J. Bell, King, Howat 4 wins. Section B: Shapley, Bath, Hollis, Mclsaac 2 wins; Grace, Mliddlemas, Marsh, Shaw 1 win; Dixon, Crccke, Burgess, Moody 4 wins; Berg, Healey McLeod, Claisley 1 win; Culav, Bigelow, Hellyar, Loane 3 wins; Otley, Chambers, Currah, Lawn 3 wins.

The president of the Bay of Plenty Bowling Centre, Mr S. McLeod, presented the trophies won and congratulated the winners.
