WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
WHAKATANE BIRTHDAY
The October meeting was .the birthday of the Institute, and Mrs Berry presided over a large atendancc of members and visitors from Taneatua, Waimana, Matata, Edgeeumbc and O'takiri. The president greeted one and all and said how pleased she was to see so many visitors. The business of the meeting was briefly dealt with. Minutes of previous meeting Avere read and confirmed, and it Avas unanimously decided to take up a collection m support of the Lepers Appeal. The entertainment commenced with a Avail competition, which was Avon by Mrs Mulholland. Then followed items by the Glee Club., which received an excellent hearing and a solo dance by little Janice BellA play "Sinking" Avas read by members of the Drama Circle, and greatly enjoyed by the audience. The players Avere Mesdames Norman, Sims, Grey, Murphy and SteAvart. A delightful afternoon tea Avas served by committee members, Mrs Caverhill, president of the Federation, cutting the birthday cake, made by Mrs Berry. The Trading Stall did a brisk business during the afternoon and the competitions attracted many entries. Results Avere as folloAVs: Boavl for effect, Mrs Wheeler 1, Mrs Yeoman 2.
