SOCIETY

EXCELLENT LOCAL RESULTS

At the last monthly meeting of the local branch of the Red Cross Society held recently at which Mrs W. Sullivan presided over an enthusiastic attendance, it was revealed that the ladies are doing splendid work for patriotic purposes'. Help for E.P.S.O Two infants layettes were handed to the W.W.S.A. for use in the Emergency Clearing Stations set up throughout the county. The sewing committee also reported having completed 16 pairs of pyjamas -which are to be forwarded to the Joint Council of the Red Cross and St. John Ambulance for the use of sick and wounded soldiers. Quota Filled That the quota for hussifs was filled was disclosed by the Comforts Committee, which also reported having made up 57 soldiers parcels. In this instance the quota was 62, and the committee had provided 57 the remaining five having been supplied by the Women's Institute. Busy Knitters Knitting needles had been working overtime according to the committee in charge of that class of work and the figures of articles contributed tovlards the Zones, quota were as follows: 52 balaclavas, 52

pairs of mittens, 41 scarves, 16 pairs of sox and one pullover.

Although excellent work is being clone there is still ample room for more workers, and any ladies who wish to assist the men overseas may do so by occupying any spare time in knitting. Information may be obtained from Mrs Timbs, convenor of the committee, and the branch secretary, Mrs D. Pearsc. Those ladies will provide wool, which alternatively may be obtained from the shop in the Strand on Tuesdays. Flowers For Sale "The Flowers That Grow in the Spring tra la . . . will be Monday's theme song in future for the shop committee and that day of each week will find a gay and colourful display of spring blooms offering at the shop from 11 a.m. onwards. Gardeners who have flowers may assist the patriotic funds by making these available for sale.
