WAIMANA MEETING

GARDENING CIRCLE

The monthly meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou Women's Institute gardening circle was held last Wednesday afternoon at Mrs Mannion's home, Waimana. Mrs John Addison presided and Mrs Mannion read the minutes of the previous meeting. A postcard was read from Mrs Woolfield, dealing with the field day to be held in Waimana on Thursday the 30th.

Three lectures by Mrs Johnston were selected from the list presented. Catering for the day was also discussed. The cultivation of dahlias was well discussed. A flower competition arranged by Mrs Mannion wasi won. by Mrs Stevenson. The day's competitions were as follows:— Bowl of shrubs arranged for ef feet: Mrs Mitchell 1, Mrs Stevenson 2, Mirs Grant Mitchell 3. Gent's buttonhole: Mrs Stevenson 1, Mrs Hughes 2i, Miss Hughes 3. Best flower-: Mrs G. Mitchell 1, Mrs Stevenson 2, Mrs Hughes 3. Best vegetable: Mrs Hughes 1, Miss Hughes 2. The hostesses, Miss Hughes and Mrs Mitchell, served a dainty tea, after which Mrs Addison thanked Mrs Mannion for the pleasant afternoon and also the hostesses.
