MENACE OF GORSE

Sir, —As a visitor to your town £ notice in the course of my walks that there is a lot of gorse in some of the back streets? Is this because your citizens like gorse and cultirate it; as a flower, or is it that the local council has forgotten to prosecute people who let gorse grow on their land. I see a lot of gorse high up on the hills opposite the Domain. What a pity that hills crowned by historic fortifications should be invaded by gorse—"Miich is a redoubtable public enemy. Can nothing be done about it? Yours etc., VISITOR.
