NO AERODROME

REPLY FROM MINISTER

At Monday r s meeting of the Borough Council a letter was received from the Minister of Defence stating that aerodromes for defence purposes only were at present being constructed 1 ancW it was not contemplated build- « ing one at Whakatane. He addedi that in view of the vast advancement in civil aviation likely to result from the war aerodromes if built at present might be found 1 to be vastly out of date in a short time. Civil requirements could therefore not be forecast. His Worship the Mayor agreed that the position was likely to be as stated and* suggested that after the war might be a more opportune time to again make representations.
