CHRISTMAS DAY FILMS

PERMISSION REFUSED

When an application was received • at Monday's meeting from Kerridge Theatres for permission to screen, suitable films at the Regent and Grand Theatres in Whakatane the Mayor stated that last year permis;sion was refused. In the previous two years the theatres had been allowed to operate, the decision being for the first time after a lengthy -discussion.

His Worship said he had always favoured granting permission as he did not see anything against suitable films being shown, but he desired the Council to be consistent. He therefore moved that decision be renewed and permission refused. The motion was seconded by Cr W. Sullivan and carried without dissent.
