MANY WHAKATANE ELECTORS

In the event of a general election taking place the writs must be issued within seven days of the end of the Parliamentary session. It is anticipated in some quarters that the session may close at the end of the week and in that event the writs would be issued at the latest at the end of next week..

With the issuing of the writs the supplementary roll will automatically close and people who are not on either the main or supplementary rolls will not be able to record their votes. About 2000 names struck off the Bay of Plenty roll 'when it was recently purged because they could not lie: located by the postal authorities when enquiry notices as to residence were sent out to them by the registrar of electors at Opotiki, who told a press representative last week that a very large percentage of these were in the Whakatane district.

Those who are not on the roll already are advised to immediately have their names placed on the supplementary roll. Only about 300 applications for enrolment have so far been received for the supplementary roll. Arrangements art; tt» hand for the deposit of a copy of the main roll in each post office within the Bay of Plenty Electorate within the next few days, and these may be inspected free of cost.
