INDOOR BOWLING
TOURNAMENT AT EDGECUMBE
TEN TEAMS COMPETE
The Rangitaiki Lodge M.U.1.0.0.F, with Mr F. Storer (secretary) as
organiser greeted a large number of indoor bowling enthusiasts at the Edgecumbe Hall on Thursdaj r last, ten teams in all entering the spirited contest which was; won by the Methodist. Social Club which won eight matches to head off Whakatane I.O.O:F. (A) which was runnerup with seven victories. The winning side was Mrs Hellyar, Hellyar, Darvill and Wallwork (skip).
The tournament was the largest staged to date and proved very popular from both sporting and social aspects. The rivalry was friendly and was enhanced by the award of a "booby" prize for the team at the wrong end of the points ladder. Rebecca Lodge (Taneatua) and Whakatane Ladies, M.U.1.0.0.F.-, tied as wooden spooners and in addition to the prize were the subject to the usual "complimentary" remarks.
Mr Wallwork as the winning skip hanked the hosts for their hospiality.
Results were as, follows: Methodist Social Club, 8; Whakatane 1.0.0. F. (A), 7; Whakatane M.U.1.0.0.F., 6; Whakatane 1.0.0. F. (B), 5%; Rangitaiki M.U.1.0.0.F. (A), 5; Taneatua M.U.1.0.0.F. (A), 4; Rangitaiki M.U.1.0.0.F. (B), 3; Rebecca Loxlge, Taneatua and Whakatane M.U.1.0.0.F. Ladies, 2.
It is understood that the Whakaane 1.0.0. F. is shortly to hold a
similar event.
