FOR GIVING'S SAKE

NEED TO EDUCATE PEOPLE MANY RAFFLES NOT DESIRABLE

When visiting Whakatane recently and addressing thei Borough and County Patriotic Committee 1 , Mr Usmar, secretary to the Auckland Provincial Council, stressed the -need for a permanent money raising effort to be maintained, irrespective of the campaigns on a Dominion wide basis. He quoted Tauranga where a committee of ladies had a shop from which in small, but steady amounts, a large sum of money had been raised. When mentioning appeals he added that too many rallies were not desirable, it being better to educate the people to give for giving's sake. Raffles were desirablei at times as a means of raising funds but it was not wise for the welfare of the people to overdo such a method of attracting funds.
