ACCESS TO MILLS
OPENING OF ROAD DISCUSSED NO ACTION 1 IMMEDIATELY A recommendation from the Works Committee to the- Borough Council on Monday night was thait no action be taken in the meantime regarding the suggestion that provision be made for access to the river opposite the Paper Mills via the lYnfotrmed road at thei western end. of James Street. When the recommendation came forward Gr A. J. Canning stated thalj the matter should not be dropped*. He admitted there, were.many difficulties and some cost might be. incurred, but on the other hand there would be about 200 employees ove* the river and they should be given every encouragement to reside in the borough. He was supported by Gr J. Creeke, The Mayor explained that the 10-* cation had been inspected and) the road line found to be very low lying. A great deal of metal would be required to make the access suitable. It liad been felt that until a definite requirement for the access was voiced then it be not proceeded witb He stated that the work would en-« tail expense and would not be used to' any great extent. The workers were already well provided for regarding access., This view was supported by Crs S. S. Shapley and W. Sullivan and in view of the obvious feeling of the meeting Gr Canning alowed tha discussion to cease the committee's recommendation being adopted.
