NEW FIRE STATION
BOARD'S PROPOSALS
ANOTHER SITE CONSIDERED
At last month's meeting of the Borough Council the chairman of the Fire Board, Mr S. S. Shapley, asked the Borough Council to name the sum required for the purchase of a section adjacent Ghristenson's premnses in Commerce Street, it being the Board's intention to build a new station when the time was opportune. At this week's meeting of the Council a recommendation was received from the Finance Committee that the section be offered at Government valuation, £175, with the resrvation that the Council' had the right to reconsider the position at the expiry of twelve months should the purchase by that time not be finalised* Ccflnmenting on the decision His Worship the Mayor stated , that sines the Finance Committee had met he had learned that the Board was not now seriously considering the suggested site, but had another regarded as more suitable in view.
