FAREWELL GATHERING

PILOT NE-V. HARRIS HONOURED

Friends of Pilot N. Harris, R.N.Z.A.F., who is now on leave; ; gathered in the King Street Hall last Thursday evening to bid him farewell and to make a formal presentation. The building was comfortably, filled and a very happy programme of dancing and games took place. Music was supplied by Miss Jean •Grover, Mr Ted Hayden and the TCopeopeo String Band. Highlights -during the evening were two Monte 'Carlos, a Mystery Parcel novelty game and a Statue Waltz. Supper was served by a volunteer commit--tee under Miss Merle Harris. At an appropriate interval the guest of the evening was presented "with an engraved wristlet watch* which he was assured represented the combined good wishes of his Whakatane friends. Pilot Harris thanked all piesent for their kindly thoughts and for the gift which he said, would always serve to remind 'him of their happy associations. A pleasant little interlude followed ?n the presentation of a neatly-made "bouquet to Mrs Harris. All present then joined in the singing of musical honours. Dancing and further itenjis made up the balance of the programme which concluded with the singing •of Aukl Lang Syne and the extension by many of personal well "wishes to Pilot Harris.
