FAREWELL DANCE

OTAKIRI SUCCESS

A very successful farewell dance Avas held in the Otakiri Hall tvn Tuesday evening, August 19. There was a very large attendance present visitors coming from all parts of the district. The hall was attractively decorated with red, white and blue streamers and greenery.

The popular Rotorua Pirates Rhythm Stars Orchestra proved an attraction of the evening and dancing continued until the small hours of the morning. Mr O. Lord proved an efficient M.C.

The winners of the Monte Carlo waltzes were No. 1 Pte Schick and Mrs Ansell, No. 2 Mr Wal.sh and Mrs Perkins.

The delicious supper which was served by the committee and many willing helpers, was a credit to the ladies of the district who had so generously contributed a wonderful variety of cakes and savouries.

After supper the presentations were made. Mr R. W. Dunning, chairman of the Otakiri Farcwcil Committee, called on Mr T'an Gow to present a gift from the Edgeeumbe people to Pte Cliff McGracken. The chairman then called on Pt.s John Murray and Bill Graham and Bob Evered to come forward, Miss Evcred taking her brother's place as he has left for Australia. The presentations being made the chairman stressed the point that it was the committee's opinion that the citizens duty did not stop at Lhe presentation but that it was their duty to see that the. men returning received good treatment. The committee undertook to do its Utmost in this respect.

The dance continued to a late hour, finishing up with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne.,"
