AUGUST RAIN
LESS THAN- LAST TEAR a ' YEAR'S TOTAL MOUNTS: During August rain on seventeen* clays totalled' 6.93 inches brmginyt the total ferr the year to date to 37.99 inches. In Augtist of 1940 the amount recorded was: greater being 9.02 inches while the total for tlis* year was: less 30.94 inches having been recorded. The driest August recorded By the local observer (M.\ H. Muscutt) was. ilt 1933 when only 1.95 fell? while oil the other hand the month produced the most rain in 1923;, 9.07 being- registered. Edgecumbe Figures Edgecumbe experienced more rain, than Whakatane for the month Mr Andrew McLean- reporting that 8.31 inches fell as against 9.52 inches: in August of 1940. The heaviest fall was on August 8 when nearly two.inches were recorded the exact figures being 1.77'. The total Edgecumbe's year to date is 45.33 inches compared witlfe 39 v .40 inches last year.
