MANPOWER COMMITTEE
SITTING AT WHAKATANE APPEALS AGAINST TERRITORIAL SERVICE!
A sitting of the Manpower Committee was held at the local Courthouse on Thursday Messrs E. Edwards (chairman), J. J. Poland and E. J. Wilton dealing with a number of appeals against service with the Territorials. In eases where service in the Home Guard is nominated the. conditions laid down stiplate that the appellants must comply with the conditions of service of the Guard.
The appeal of H. R. John was adjourned to 1/11/41 so long as reservist remains in his present occupation and joins the Home Guard within 14 daj r s.
Mr Horsfall appealed for exemption for F. W. Foote and a sine die adjournment was granted pro* viding the reservist remains in his present occupation and remains in the Home Guard.
Mr F. J. Savage appealed for his jen, T. J. Savage and the decision was that the case be adjourned sine die as long as the reservist remain-* ed in his present occupation and continued to serve with the Homo Guard. The appeal of E. R. Dillicar for L. T. Simpson was dismissed leave being granted until 1/11/41. Mr E. A.i Haultain appealed against the calling of his son C. A. Haultain. The appeal was dismissed leave being granted until 1/2/42 as long as the reservist remains in his present occupation and serve with the Home Guard. ! The appeal of Mrs Kane for D. B. Kane was adjourned sine die the 'reservist to continue in his present occupation and serve with the Home Guard. An adjournment sine die was granted D. W. Crang his father being the reservist on condition that he remains in his. occupation and serves with the Home Guard. An adjournment until 1/10/41 was granted J. S. Fobister who appealed against the calling of his son, F. J. Fobister. S. Mcl. Bell for whom his father Mir E. A. Bell appeared was granted a sine die. adjournment on condition he remains in his present occupation and joins the Home Guard. , Mr J. Li. Burnett appealed for B. L. Burnett and E. C. McLiver. In the first instance the case was dis missed leave being granted until 1/5/42, the reservist to continue serving with the Home Guard. In the latter case was dismissed, leave that the case be dismissed leave granted until 1/2/42 and the reservist to jjoin the Home Guard. Leave was granted until 1/2/42 in the case of N. F. Reynolds. An adjournment was granted sina die in the case of W. Jones. Mr F. Goyle appealed for his son I. A. Goyle the appeal being dismissed leave granted until 1/3/42 and the reservist to remain in his present occupation and join the Home Guard within 14. days. The Rangitaiki Dairy Co appealed against . ]the calling of E. M. Mcßae. Leave was granted until 1/1/42 the reservist to remain in the eniploy of the factory and join the Home Guard. The appeal of J. A. Phillips was withdrawn-; F. H. Wederell did- not appear and his appeal was dismissed.
