OBITUARY

MR Wm. LEWIS In the death of Lewis which occurred in the Whakatane hospital last Thursday, yet another link with the pioneering past was severed. Mr Lewis was horn ?a Canterbury eighty years ago, being the son of two well known early pioneers- of that district the lale Mr and Mrs George Lewis. Air Wm. Lewis spent tlie better part of his life in the South Island, but four years ago came north and lived with his only daughter, Mrs A. G. Hultquist, wife of the M.T*. for the district. As a result of aat accident, he was admitted to the Whakatane Hospital three -tfeeks ago, and failed to make any a%»preciable recovery. Up till his mishap he had enjoyed splendid health. His wife predeceased him some years ago. There is one grandchild.
