THE PRICE OF BREAD
Sir,—While prepared to admit that I have not taken the trouble
to compare it with other centres, the price of bread in Whakatane appears to me ta be exorbitant. Can you inform me if the rates charged here are standardised or whether the bakers fix their owb prices. I expect they have been hit like everyone else by the shortage of commodities and the shortage of labour, but I would like to know if it is possible for you to answer my point as my family are big bread eaters and our weekly account is growing considerably.
Yours etc,
KNEADING THE DCXJGI'V
(We understand that the price of bread throughout the Dominion is standardised and has been for some time. There is of course the delivery charge, which the baker is permitted to add to the charge, this is one half-penny per lpaf. Ed.).
