FAREWELL DANCE
There was quite a large gathering of friends of Private H. Spanhake in the Waimana Hall recently to bid him farewelL Mr and Mrs King supplied the dance music, and Mr M. Burke and Mr G. Wardlaw obliged Avith e:xtras. Mr H. Wardlaw carried out the duties as M.C. most efficiently; and Mr R. Morton was doorkeeper. The confetti and other novelty dances proved most popular. A novelty Monte Carlo Waltz was won by Mi,sis R. Hughes and Private Spanhake. A pet lamb for competition was won by Miss B. Bell, and another competition went to Mr Dave White.
A dainty supper was served by a most capable committee of ladies, after which Mr N. Macdonald called on the guest of honour to come forward and accept a wallet and cheque from all present and the speaker wished him the, very best of luck and a safe return to this country. Mr Macdonald stated that Private Spanhake was one of the first to enlist and was in camp and had to return to his home to help on the farm, owing to his illhealth. The guest most suitably responded, thanking all.
Dancing continued and Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem closed the evening.
