CITIZEN'S COMMITTEE ELECTED
WIDESPREAD ENTHUSIASM
Further indications of £he grow-
ing popularity of the -Girl Guide movement in this town was! instanced by the splendid attendance at the public meeting held in the Parish Hall last Tuesday for the purpose »f electing a Citizens C'ommitt-ee. Mrs F. Gartshore, the newly elected Commissioner for the district presided, and. outlined the idea of the movement and the necessitv for electing a strong committee to stand behind the company. The sum of £b from the original Whakatane Company was formally handed, over to form the nucleus of the new funds. The election of officers was then proceeded with and resulted:—
President: Mrs Searle.
Vice-presidents: Mesdames S. S. Shapley, K. Runciman, B. S. Barry. Fraser. L. Buddie.
Secretary and Treasurer: Miss M. IVhiteside.
Trustees: Mrs Gartshore and Miss Whiteside.
Comfriittee: Mesdames Pirini (Pai'oa), C'aulter (Tc Teko), Burt, Miller, Winstone. Sutcliffe, Bullard and Kingsley Smith*
It was. decided to hold regular meetings the |irxt of which will he held at the residence of Mrs Searle on the afternoon of September 12.
