THE SEASON'S KILLINGS
The official figures of export killings at the Dominion's freezing works from Ist October, 1940, tili 2nd August 1.941, as issued by the New Zealand Meat Producers Board Show that lamb killings have reached a total of 11,220,386 or 838,79'. carcases above that of the previous season. Ewe killings now show a decrease of 383,118 carcases compared Avith the previous season, the current total being 1,536,414. Wethers have declined by- 691,130, the killings this season totalling 615,727. Details of lamb and mutton production to August 2nd, with the corresponding figures for the previous season (to Angus 3rd) in parentheses are as follows:— Nof th Isi and 1 . Wether mutton (C/cs.) 515.893 (1,131,151) Ewe mutton (C/cs.) 861,250 (1,219,352) Lamb 5,814,635 (5,308,198) South Island l . Wether mutton (C/cs.) 99,834 ( 175,706) Ewe mutton (C/cs.) 675,164 ( 700,210) Lamb (C/cs.) 5,405,751 (5,073,397) Frozen beef production has reached 692,495- quarters compared with 687,058.
Porker killings (211,266 in the North Island, and 8305 in the South) total 219,571 showing an increase of 128,969 carcases. Baconer killings were as follows: North Island. 273,880 (compared with 313,964): South Island 9105 (11,773) a decrease this season of 42,746 carcases. Killings of choppers total 10,151 being a decrease of 774.
Killings of other classes of meat expressed in '601b freight carcases were as follows, with the figures for the previous season to approximately the same date, shown in parentheses:— Boneless beef 512,612' (863,963) Boneless bobby veal 85,421 (106,304) Sundries 413,656 (458,663)
