FANCY DRESS DANCE

THORNTON SCHOOL EVENT

On Friday, August Ist the pupils of the Thornton School held their annual fancy dress dance in the Thornton Hall. After the singing of the National Anthem the children assembled for the Grand March. During this the costumes of the children were judged by Mrs Bell while the best marchers were selected by Mr V. Carter..

During an interval Mr Carter thanked the parents and others for attending the function and assist 1 - ing to make it a success. There was no doubt that the mothers of tho pupils had put in a great deal of time in making the costumes, as (hey were of a very high standard (ndeed. Mrs Bell, therefore, had n, difficult time in judging the best costumes. The following four pupils were selected-:—*

Best Fancy Costume: Girl, Mary Baillie at; a Bride. Boy, Nigel Palmer as a Pirate.

Most Original Costume: RonaU Branch, Crossword Puzzle.

Most Humorous Costume: George Mams, Whakatane County Council

Roadman.

Best ex-pupils Costume: Charlotte

Newton

The best marchers selected were as follows: Senior hoy, Russell Law; Senior girl, Betty Mexted; Junior boy, Clive McKay; Junior girl, Julia Davis. After the grand march the senior and the junior pupils each gave three Folk Dances. This was. followed by a dance for the adults Mr Villis acting as M.C. During an interval a Hawaiian dance was performed by Barbara Bell and was tnuc.li appreciated as an extra item. The Monte Carlo was won by Mr I. I-Iyland and Miss M. Robins.
