WHY NOT A GIRL GUIDE TROOP?
THE question which has been asked so frequently in Whakatane 'why not a troop of Girl Guides' appears to be now approaching an answer. For many years now, Whakatane has been pprud of its Scout Troop,, members of which can usually be depended upon to .give a good account of themselves at the various inter-town competitions. W-hat, then, is to prevent the formation of a Guide troop ? There are dozens of eligible young girls who are keenly desirous of joining such a useful unit, which would "make an excellent recruiting ground for efficient future members of the W.W.B.A. The District Commissioner is we understand visiting this town to-morrow. What is to prevent the calling of a short-notice meeting of those interested in to test out the possibilities? We feel confident that the result would be more than satisfactory and that Mrs Balfour would be only too pleased to address such a meeting in order to acquaint those present with the necessary procedure for the initial steps towards formation of the troop.
