TWENTY KILLED IN LIFEBOAT

ENTIRE FAMILY WIPED OUT

Tlic savagery of a U-boat commander who fired a torpedo and killed 20 people helpless in an open lifeboat was described to the London News-Chronicle by survivors of the Holt liner Eurymedon who landed at a West Coast port in England. Casualties totalled 29 —10 British members of the crew, 10 Chinese and nine passengers, all Dutch. "The lifeboats were still hanging In the davits, being lowered Avher the torpedo struck with, a tremendous explosion," said a member of the crew. Then we saw a spure of smoke, on clie horizon and the submarine dived. The smoke belonged to a British

warship."
