Sir,—We have just read your excellent leading article in to-day's BEACON, and in response cry, "Hear! Hear!" Naturally the point that interests us most has to do with the dropping of raffles. Now, like yourself, hate to be misunderstood: —we not suggest for a moment that mature men and women are going to be turned into gamblers even if they; take tickets in every local gamble,, but we are greatly concerned oveii the young people and the Maoris.We know of the hold gambling has in our country,-and of the spiritual ruination it is working amongst our much-loved Maori people, and we feel that no sacrifice or effort wa
