SCARVES, BALACLAVAS AND MITTENS WHAKATANE'S ALLOCATION An urgent appeal has been received from the National Fund Board'is Overseas Commissioner for an additional 40,000 scarves and balaclavas, and 40,000 pairs of mittens, and' the Provincial Councils are requested to take in hand at once the work of meeting this need. It has become necessary to build up stocks of these articles in Egypt, in case of the necessity for our troops to fight on the European con tinent during the forthcoming winter. It has been suggested that until ' this new demand has been met that the knitting of socks should be suspended, in the meantime. - Supplies of wool for the work wiU be available under an arrangement just concluded with the Board which will give the 11 Provincial Councils 10,0001bs of wool per month. Of this thei Auckland Provincial Council, Which includes Whakatane has a monthly allocation of 28001bs. Basis of Supply. The allocation of Zone "K". which comprises Opotiki and. Whakataii'--Counties with internal Boroughs, it 1590 articles, comprising 530 each o( scarves, balaclavas, and pairs of mittens. The Opotiki County and Borough Inter-Zone Committee will supply 205 knitted articles under each of the three headings above and thi-' committee is responsible for the supply of 325 knitted articles under each t)f the three headings above.
