RACING NOTES
MAY COME BACK The Beau Perc mare, Taurangi, Waikato Cup winner, who has been off the scene lately is working especially well at Wanganui. Her trainer, Dave Marks, is confident that the mare will be ready for next New Zealand Gup. NOMENCLATURE The name given to the Bui andshar—The Begum colt, bred and owned by Mr McGovern of Te Awamutu, is Aizzui. He. is a full brother to the champion High Castei, and will be taken over to Australia in due course to enter upon his racing career. THE WELLINGTON STEEPLES A feature of tliei entry for tho Wellington Steeplechase is the in fclusion of the winners of the race in the past four years, Chat, Survoy, Erination and Santoff. Of tins jumping quartette Santoff is reported to be lame, Erination is on th« decline, Survoy is. partially broken down, but Chat is improving by week. IN GOOD HANDS Birkology, who ranks as one <i> 4 the leading favourites, for the Wellington Steeplechase, was bred by Mr N. C. Loisiel, of Qisborne. After his debut on the turf he was purchased by Mr W. R- Moore, but ih due course, by his winning deeds, attracted the attention of Mr TFraser, well known in the sporting world as the OAvner of good winner! in Hunting Cry and Sporting Blood and he is now the owner of the Psychology rep re.se nla t i vo. EXTREMELY EULOGISTIC Sydney newspapers are allotting more than the usual space to refe---ene<; anent the forthcoming visit ofr Kindergarten to Australia. On a writer states he lately received a letter from a New Zealand snorts; man as follow?;: •'Kindergarten is n bit on the plain side, but what a galloper! There has 1 , never been ono like him. It is extraordinary, but remember the speed of Gothic, halfbrother to his sire. This chap has that, a remarkable temperament, and can stay. STUDENT PRINCE PLEASES Student Prince went two good races at Manawatu, his first in publie for nearly two months. He made up a lot of ground on the first day, and on the second day he dashed up into a favourable position half a mile from horned but was not seasoned enough to maintain it. These races should benefit Student Prince, and he should be a fitter liorsei at Trentham, a course on which has won previously.
FROM A GOOD FAMILY Though Kanni Te Pai, who won a double at the recent Manawatu meeting, has an unknown sire) described as a Cynic colt, he has good blood in the sire of his dam, Bourgeoise. This mare is by Bourbon II fiom Merry, Til', by Marble Arch from Merry Nif. This family has good performers in General Latour, the sire of Te Kara and Gallio, and King Lu. From the way in which Kanui Te Pai won his two races at Awapuni he may soon be out of hack class. UNDER SUSPENSION Nine of Melbourne's best-known rideirs are at present under suspension, mostly for interference, and for periods of two months to six months. There must be something radically wrong in a style of riding which can bring about such an undesirable state*of affairs. BEAU VITE & KINDERGARTEN "Cardigan" in the Herald, Melbourne, states: "New Zealanders are confident that Kindergarten Avill beat Beau Vite the first time they meet, irrespective of the> distance." tt is perhaps worth noting that the time of preparation .may be a factor in the result, and although "Cardigan" does not make; mention of the fact, many New Zealanders are aware that whereas Kindergarten, after a spell, has been in work fully a month, Beau Vite was only brought in by his! trainer from Bacchus "Marsh last week, and is reported to be big in condition.
