WAIMANA MEETING The July meeting of tlie Wai- • xnana-Nukuhou branch of the W<m men's Institute was/held last "\jVedTiesday afternoon, in the Waiamna Hall. There Avas a good attendance, Mrs Hewitt presiding. The Institute song and the Ode to< Friendship • opened the meeting, which, took the form of a Scottish day. The minutes: and routine business was • dealt with; the Institute Birthday was discussed, and it was decided to hold a meeting as usual, with "items, and each member is bringing something suitable to be packed in to soldiers parcels for overseas. It was decided to invite; Sister "Institutes. I Mrs MeC'onnell Snr. gave a read- j ing on "Robert Burns" which was j "listened to with interest. ; The Roll Call was/ "Scotch Jokes" imd was: well responded to. Mrs F. Savage gave an interest- j ing report on the entertainment part of the Adult Education School held at T'auranga recently. Dancing items were given . bv Lois Wardlaw (Sliean Truibhias), "Marion Gilanders (Sword Dance) and Nola Rust and Dora Wardlaw (Irish Jig). The day's competitions, were: Best Flower, Mrs Woolfiaid (camelia) 1, "Mrs King (red hot poker) 2, Mrs F. Bell (jonquil) 3; best vegetable. TVlrs Stansbury (lettuce) 1, Mrs Marra (leek) 2, Mrs! F. Bell (silver Ibeet) 3; scotch shortbread. Mrs I. Savage 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mivsi H. "Wardlaw 3;, marmalade, Mrs, Hewitt 1, Mrs Mylde 2, Mrs A. K. Bell 3. The hostesses served a much enjoyed afternoon tea, and Mrs Hewitt thanked the judges, hostesses, dancers and all who had helped to the afternoon so pleasant. The singing of the National Anthem closed the; ; meeting.
