CATTLE DOG TRIALS

EVENT AT TE TEKO OUTSTANDING SUCCESS The Te Teko Cattle Dog Trials were held on. the Te Teko Domain on Wednesday, June 2', and were favoured w r ith a fine day and a great response from the public, both competitors and spectators. The committee adopted the same method as last year by, donating the total profits of the day to the Pat-* riotic Fund and the response wa-j a record for which the club Expresses its gratitude to the public and all those who helped to make the day so successful. Visitors and competitors were present from as far afield as Opotiki and North Auckland, the Roto-, rua district being particularly well represented. One visitor and com petitor the club was very pleased to welcome was. Mr S. Petrie, of Maungaturoto,. lit w 7 ill be remembered by the older residents that Mr Petrie was. an original member nnd founder of the Te Teko Cattle Dog Trials. When lie came a dis, tance of 300 miles; and brought a dog with him showed that he still takes a great interest in the local club. Apologies for absence were received from the Patron, Mr F. W. Doidge, M.P., and Mr W. A. McCracken. A most successful day was wound up with a very enjoyable dance held in the evening. The happy crowd danced to the music of the Gaiety Boys' orchestra until well into the small hours* of the morning

During the evening Mr G. Elvers, the president, took an oppor* tunity of presenting the cups won during the day, also of thanking and paying tribute to the many that supported the club. He firstly thanked the public for their splendid cause, the Women's Division of Te Teko who had charge of the cat ering on the ground, who left nothing to be desired, who also conducted the dance. The donors of the calves, Messrs W. Glen and A. J. Rhodes, the judges, Mr C. Me Kenzie and Mr C. Duncan, whos* decisions met with the very popular approval of the competitors were also mentioned. He specially thanked Mrs Duuderdale whose very generous donations to the club were responsible for the profits being a record and the hotej staff for their much appreciated assistance. Referring to the successful com petitors Mr Eivers said that it gave him the greatest of pleasure; to present to Mr D. Allan the winner of the dog event, the Club's Cup. No competitor deserved a win more than him as for the last 17 years he had been a keen and consistent competition, and had had every other place except the first: The president hoped that he would go- on winning for years to come. In the horse events the honours. Were fairly well divided and resulted in some keen finishes. That great horseman and sportsman, Allan Stewart, showed the younger competitors that he had not forgotten how to ride a horse.
