JVIR F. J. REYNOLDS DISAPPEARANCE LARGE PARTY ENGAGED The absence of any further information regarding Mr F. J. Reynolds who is thought to have ■ slipped into the Rangitaiki river last Monday morning, and who has not been heard of since has intensified, if anything the gloom cast over the district when the news of the tragedy was first released. The great popularity enjoyed by Mr Reynolds is borne out by the endless number of enquiries coming tlaily from all parts of the province. In Opotiki where he was particularly well knoAvn the news was received by his numerous frierulfe wit>h the deepest concern. One businessman who visited Whakatane said that the whole town was. deeply affected. Other at this office have been Te Puke, Tauranga, Rotorua and Hamilton. The' executive of the Whakatane Golf Club, of which Mr Reynolds was president, has decided to postpone all week-end competitions as i mark of respect to a man for whom all members hacT the highest regard. His enthusiasm and work in the interests of the cluli, will long be remembered by those privileged to be associated with him. "He was one of the happy ones," said a visitor to the office j T esterday. "You meet so many gloomy faces these days that it was an inspiration to meet up with Frank. He had a way with him that made yon feol better for having met him.'* This view was a general one and reflected the esteem and the friendship he held in the hearts of those who knew him. Many Workers Engaged. The search along the river banks continues, a large part 3* of neighbours still being engaged in a thorough combing of the vicinity.
