CHEESE PRODUCTION

ESTABLISHMENT OF FACTORY RANGITATKI COMPANY'S DECISION Last week a circular was issued to dairy farmers of the district advising them that the Directors of the Rangitaiki Dairy Company, at the request of the Dairy Division and because of Great urgent need of cheese supply had agreed to establish and control a cheese factory which would* operate in the building adjacent the Whakatane Paper Mills. The buildings to be used are those left vacant by the Associated Fibre Millers Ltd., and the suppliers were told in the circular that, as the Government had no intention of erecting new buildings, the locality of the proposed factory had to be determined by the only suitable building available. Shortage of Cans. The acute shortage of milk cans was mentioned it being stated that real difficulties would present themselves in this connection until the season was fairly well advanced. Also included in the Daily Company's circular was that suppliers who make the change over from butter to cheese would be served by the company in regard to collection. Cartage of Milk. It is the intention of the Company to make the collection of milk supply with its own trucks calling at farmers' gates. The treat milk cartage Avould be on a co-operative basis and it was not the company's intention to return the whey in these vehicles. Start in September. It was announced that the Company hoped to commence cheese manufacture in September of this year and prospective suppliers were notified that in the near future the Company would call a meeting at which further information would be given. It was also stated that in the meantime the Dairy Instructor would be available to give advice in regard to alteration to milking plants, the erection of stands, roading and any other matters effecting existing arrangements on the farm.
