COMPETITIONS AT WINTER SHOW
Sir, —As a past secretary of the Winter Show, Mr L. R. Spring knows exactly what a very little time that left him to bother about the singing and elocution competitions. He knows, next to'nothing about them, having been in Wliakatane only a short time. Was he secretary of the Show for two years or was it three ? If Mr Spring imagines everyone who writes a letter to the paper is going to ask his or any member of the Winter Show Committee's permis sion to do so. himself very ridiculous. reiterates "the talents of the chrWrerr have been exploited long enough." The concerts following thei com-* petitions each year are n<?t held for the children's benefit but as a draw for the Show. .Mr Spring is quite away from the subject and is trying to be very profoundi when he asks "Does Teacher know how long this war Avill last and lias he or she the appreciation every teacher should have of what education means" etc. ELnd-a great deal more of irrelevant "stuff" to the end of his latter. Yes! Mr Spring, "Teacher" is really a teacher and a great deal more qualified to pass an opinion on the subject under debate, than you are. It has been my experience to adjudicate at various competitions, act as steward many many times, and pleasure and privilege to teach children Yours etc., SAME TEACHER.
