SOLDIERS TO SWOT
EDUCATIONAL, SCHEME PROPOSAL IN AUSTRALIA Soldiers on service in Australia are to have an education scheme designed to keep them in touch with the changing currents of civilian life and to help them when they return to peace-time occupations. The Commonwealth Government has voted £200,000 to finance it. Later, an effort will be made to extend it to meimbers of the A.I.F. abroad. Features are: — Publication and distribution to all troops of a weekly journal containing items of an educational nature and of general interest. Distribution of pamphlets on many topics, of which somet will be specially written for the scheme. Establishment of libraries in major camps and provision of library facilities for all units, including th® most distant. ** Provision of cinegraphic and slide projectors to help lectures and' show documentary and educational films.. A special panel of expert lecturers and discussion group leaders. Instruction in arts and handicrafts.
