HOME GUARD
SIGNALLERS AT WORK LECTURES TO BATTALIONS The Signallers of the Home Guard in the district are finding their work interesting, having made good progress lately. On Monday evening the local Guard and the Matata Guard despatched signals to one an-, other, the local men flashing lamp signals from the top of Hillcrcst and the Matata men operating from a hill at the rear of the Matata sta tion. Considering the distance the signals Avere readily picked up and the performance of the men's homo made lamps excellent. Lectures Given. During last AA*eek a lecture and in struction was giA r en to the men o? the second Battalion at Edgecumbe by the Area Commander, Mr C ! . R Wilson, find Captain Mulhern. Number One Battalion Avas similarly treated at Whakatane by Captain J. W. Wilson and Battalion Com mander C. 11. Brcbner, Avhilei at Tan eatua Captain Neil Rcid and Bat talion-Commander Brcbner conducted the lectures. Shooting Exercises. A number of the companies are now making good progress Avitii shooting exercises, this Avork appeal* ing to the men and evoking considerable; interest.
