MILITARY GYMKHANA
HOME GUARD EFFORT ARRANGEMENTS WELL, IN HAND The programme for the Military Gymkhana to be held by the Home Guard at the Show Grounds next month is now finalised and lias been printed in pos'ter form. This event is scheduled for July 2(5, Avhich is Saturday and will commence at 11 a. m S The programme arranged caters for both Mounted and foot units, and also territorials, Avhilo miscellaneous are to be for the general public. The gymkhana will be preceded by a parade by thei Whakatane Pipe Band, AAdiilc later in the day the local band and the Rotorua band Avill giA*e a display. In the, evening a ball is to be held in the Winter Slioav Buildings. Donations or cash for prizes is solicited from then general public and donors are asked to communi cate with the secretary, Mr K. GRunciman. To date a ready response has been made to this appeal and Avinning competitors in the various events are assured of very good trophies. T'wo cups have been given for the Open Jumping competition, two cups for the Victoria Cross, tAvo cups ofr the Lloyd Lindsay, four for the Sectional Jumping, 2i for the Half-Sec-tional Jumping and one for each of the Platoon and Section Drill. Residents of country districts have been very generous to those eanvassersi appointed by the committee and already £60 has come to hand. The committee hopes that a similar response Avill result from the appeal to the citizens of Whakatane.
