MR DOIDGE'S REMARKS
Sir, —We noticed in your issue of Monday last that Mr F. W. Doidge has carefully analysed the Grecian campaign and lays the failure of the British forces at the door of the New Zealand Labour Government because, so he says, the New Zea--land boyis were- not taught to handle a rifle. What a futile excuse! We have been told by radio and newspapers ad infinitum ad nauseum that our troops were beaten by the German's superior air force and armoured vehicles. We wonder if Mr Doidge ever stops" talking long enough to think at whose door the blame can be laid. Making a rough working class guess we would say at the doors of the monej r ed class in Britain who protected their investments in Irak This was the class that le;t our boys down when they failed to equip them with planes and tanksi in sufficient numbers to check a heavily armed foe. Another thing we noticed in your report of the same meeting was that Mr Doidge's old and trusted colleague (fully three years old) Mr Broadfoot referred to Mr Doidge as "one of our Storm Troopers." How could Mr Doidge sit there and hear himself so cruelly maligned? Surety even he must realise that a Storm Trooper is in reality a Gestapo agent. We thank you for allowing ns sufficient spacc to correct the erroneous impression a few of your readers may have gained from Mr Doidge's speech. ( Signed) N. S. MAJOR, Chairman. COLIN W. CLARK. Secretary. Whakatane Branch N.Z.L.P.
