Further progress with the development of the Lower Waikaremoana hydro-electric scheme is indicated by the proclamation of the taking of approximately 55 acres of land foi tin* power-house and other works. Turbines and electrical equipment for the power station were completed in England several months ago, and it is estimated that tlio plant will be brought into operation during next year, thus relieving the shortage of alectiic current, particularly in the southern part of the \ T orlh Tsland.
