IMPROVED PLANES
BRITISH AND GERMAN DUELS OVER ENGLAND New types of Spitfires and Hurricanes have been meeting greatly improved Messerschmitts 109's in skirmishes 30.000 ft above the coast, during the last fortnight, writes the London correspondent of the Sydney Morning Herald. Their results have demonstrated their great technical superiority of the British fighters over the Luftwaffe's machines. Fifteen Mcssersclimitls: were destroyed and eight were badly damaged in that period, compared with the Royal Air Korea's three losses. None of the enemy fighters penetrated beyond the advanced R.A.F. bases. They Avere not escorting bombers but were looking for a fight. The new Messersenmitt—l OOPhas been improved, both in climb and in speed, but thei German pilots are finding that the British improved types are still ahead of their own. I.t is now more than three months since the Luftwaffe attempted a daylight bombing raid on Britain with a force of more than 50' bombers.
