MAORIS AND MAIZE PLUCKING

Sir, —Like many others I was only too glad to do my little bit towards plucking maize last week-end. I have nothing other to complain of other than the pleasant picture provided by the fifty or sixty Maoris, lolling, squatting, lounging, and gossiping round the entrance to one of our hotels, as we went past. I understood Mr Editor, that there were, few if any Maoris available this laturned I re-» cognised many of the same face?, and I think if I am correct that there was not one arlult Maori, picked who answered thet appeal. Yours etc., CYNIC.
