LADY WORKERS AT THE SHOW
WHILE the masculine gender has a reasonable excuse to pride itself on the undoubted success of the Show, we feel that something* ought to be said of the great part played by members of the fairer sex. We admit that the committee .comprises a group of men, hard-working progressive men, -who are to be congratulated on their efforts, but on the other hand we venture the humble opinion that without the co-operation and active interest of the ladies, despite ' all the meetings of men in creation, the Show would have been a dismal failure. Let us quote some of the activities in which the ladies are directly concerned: Afternoon tea service, supper stall, sweets stall, Red Cross and Blind Institute products stall, Institute Courts, Anglican Ladies stall. If these do not satisfy let us glance at the exhibition benches; for every entry by mer errian there were at least a dozen by ladies. In fact the great bulk of show classes is devoted to work done by our womenfolk, knitting, sewing, cooking, preserving, handwork and art classes, Many of the exhibits are entered by those actively associated with the show but there is also a large class of district ladies who being unable to assist, are pleased to enter for competition. Again we have the children's sections. Who is responsible for the dressing and costuming of the junior competitors in the School classes of elocution and dancing, for the Highland dancing, and for the fancy dress parade in the Grand Procession. Here surely is mother's hand again! In almost every 'sphere of activity they are to be seen directly and indirectly doing their full share; quietly and efficiently seeing- it through; allowing the men to make all the speeches and earn the plaudits of the multitude, and yet glad and willing to pull their weight. Hats off to our district womenfolk, who in their hundreds have assisted in some way or other towards the splendid success of our show when circumstances were more than ever against it.
