TRAFFIC OFFENCES
MOTORISTS IN COURT LIST OF MINOR CHARGES The Transport Department's Inspector, Mr J. H. Delves, had. a short list of cases to bring before Mr E. L.. Walton, S.M., at yesterday's sitting of the) Whakatane'Magistrate's Court. Fines totalling £2 2s with oosts £1 9s were imposed on Hcemi Te Pooni, Avho was caught driving a car which had only one headlight and no tail light and also was not carrying a certificate of fitness. Having no warrant cost James Rangihika a fine of 10s with costs 17s, while being Avithout a driver',i Jicence entailed a further penalty of 5s Avith costs 12s. For having travailed over 80 m.p.h in Commerce St. Henry Nolan Jeffcoat Avas fined £2 with 12s court costs added. When Wm, Alexander Shepherd was charged with failing to notify the change) of ownership of a vehicle, Mr G. Otley on defendant's behalf explained that the defendant had left his motor cycle Avith a firm for sale with a blank transfer form signed. He had thought the firm would see to the transfer Avhen the sale Avas effected. A fine of 10s Avith costs 10s was imposed. The foregoing case brought also charges against Willie Paul of using a vehicle before; a transfer had been effected, of having no Avarrant of fitness and no license. It Avas Explained by the Inspector that thei de. fendant was noAV in camp Avith the Maori Battalion and a conviction was entered and the case discharged. > Wandering Stock. Theo Anderson was charged Avith alloAving 19 cows to Avander on the road and AA x as fined £2 Avith costs 12s. In Roman a Ratima's case only eight heifers Avere at large and the fine Avas £1 10s and tho costs 19s. . A horse unattended on the highway cost Mate WataraAvi a fine of £1 the additional costs being 18s, while tin; Avandering of five horses Avas responsible for a fine of £1 10? •with costs 19s in the case of Maui Ngoungou.
