WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

OTAKIRI ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Gtakiri Women's Institute was held on March 5, with a good attendance of members. Mrs J. E. Tickner was reelected president, and the personnel of the committee remained the same, with the addition of Mesdames Higham and Hampton. Mrs H. Withy, who was present sooke a few words of commendation and encouragement. The Roll Call, "My Favourite Flower," created much interest, while the best flower competition was won by Mrs Hampton, with Mrs Tickner second. A very amusing pillow competition was won by Mrs Spiers, with Mr.i Woods second. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Woods and Mackrell. The April meeting was well attended, and after the routine business, an appeal for second-hand blankets was discussed, and it was decided that instead of sending blankets, a patchwork quilt, should be made, members making the patches. During the meeting, members repaired garments for the Lady Gayway Guild. The Roll Call "The Noise I Most Dislike," Avas greatly enjoyed, as was the musical 1 parcel game, which was won by Mesdames Dunning and Hancoqk. The competitions for best flower and apple shortcake were won by Mesdamev Tickner 1, Mrs Hampton 2, and Mrs Woodberry 1, Mrs Tickner 2, a,nd Mrs Rutherford and Mrs Woods 3 equal. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Lord and Mulhern. In June the Otakiri W. 1., held their annual Birthday Party. There was a large attendance of members and friends, and a vary happy aflt«;rnoon was enjoyed. After the routine business, Mrs Tickner Avelcomed the visitors and the meeting was given over to games and competitions. After afternoon tea served by the committee, and during which the birthday cake was cut, a mosl enjoyable play was given, entitled "Gossiping." The players were Mesdames Cristall and Spiers and Miss Tunnicliffe.

WAIMANA MEETING The Waimana-Nukuhou Women's Institute held the monthly meeting last Wednesday afternoon, in tho Waimana Hall. There was a good attendance of members, Mrs Hewitt presiding. An apology was received from Mrs Wylde, the secretary, and Mrs Black obligingly filled the vacnncy. The minutes and correspondence were dealt with. Mrs I. Savage read a letter of resignation from the Singing Circle; from Mrs K. A. Bell, who is leaving the district shortly. The roll call was "Answer Your Neighbour's Question" which proved most interesting. Mrs Black read an interesting paper on the Rock of Gibraltar, and Mrs A. K. 801 l gave a reading on Mr Winston Churchill. Two competitions arranged by Mrs Black were won by Mrs Stevenson and Mrs Mitchell. The Institute has decided to help to clean up and beautify the Waimana cemetery. The day's competitions were:— Best flower, Mrs Hughes. (Rose) 1, Mrs Mitchell (Geranium) 2, Mrs A. j Eagle (Jonquil) 3. Best vegetable, Mrs F. Bell (Silver Beet) 1, Mrs I. Savage (Lettuce) 2, Mrs Black (Carrot )3. Jam jar of berries, Mrs F. Bell 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs I. Savage 3. Jar Melon jam, Mrs I. Savage 1, Mrs Hewitt 2, Mrs Grant Mitchell 3.1 Cbmmunitj- singing and the National Anthem closed the meeting.
