EDGECUMBE DANCE

FAREWELL PRESENTATIONS The Eclgecumbe Hall was crowded with dancers from all parts of the district on Monday night when 3 dancet organised by the Women's War Service Auxiliary and the Home Guard was held. Mr I. Gow capably carried out the duties of M.C. Occasion was taken to make farewell presentations to a nursing si»» ter and three soldiers at present on - leave. A guard of honour of W;-W.S.A. and Home Guard members werft formed and Sister Goldsmith, Pte. Savage and Pte Wilson were escorted to the stage. . , ; ;, Mr Hutton extended to the guests of honour the best wishes of the community, wishing them God speed and a safe return and presented a money belt to each man. A similar gift will be sent to Pte Puckey Who was not" present. Mrs Le Lievre then presented! Sister A. Goldsmith with a bouquet and gift on behalf of the Farewell Committee and residents of Edgecumbe. Mrs Le Lievre in a pleasing little speech said how proud Edgecumbe was to have the honour of seeing one of its local girls volunteer for overseas nursing service. She wished Sister Goldsmith all happiness in her work and a safe return. Enthusiastic applause followed, nnd the hearty singing of "They Are Jolly Good Fellows" concluded a pleasing farewell ceremony. ■ [ Mr C. R. Wilson, Area Commander of the Home Guard, then addressed the gathering briefly, stressing the importance of the Home Guard and W.W.S.A. organisations Dancing was continued, Mrs Arm- . strong's popular orchestra providing excellent music for old-time and modern numbers equally well.. Mr Campbell Gree led the community singing which was enjoyed. Supper was served by the W.W.S;Ai committee, and a very successful , function concluded with the National Anthem.
