BLAZE AT MATATA
DWELLING BURNT TO GROUND NEIGHBOURING HOUSE SAVED A four-roomed dwelling, ther property of Mr A. Kin ley,, was , destroyed; nt Matata early yesterday afternoon. Nothing comlld) ' be done to save the house whilch;. was situated near the Convent, buit adjoining was the residence of Mr Lionel Marmont to which the fire was prevented from spreading- by a bucket The house was insured with the' State Fire for £500 and the furniture for £200. Local Alarm Sounded. Some confusion resulted when the alarm was given, the Power Board when notified believing the fire was near the local Convent, with the result that the Whakatane Brigade was called arid promptly arrived at the Convent to find that all was in order. The alarm sounded at about 2.10 pan.
