A FOUR-DAY EVENT

MAIN ITEMS REVIEWED

The Annual Winter Show which opens on Wednesday and extends till the end Of the week, will embrace all the usual classes and sections, together with the daily features which have been included in the proceedings in the past. On Wednesday, the official opening will take place at 2 p.m., when the Hon. W. G. Bar-» clay will address the crowd assembled ouiside the building. Exhibits will be open for inspection during the afternoon and evening sessions. On 1 Thursday the Whakatane Caledonian Society will feature the dancing and piping programme, which will be carried out in the Show marquee, anid continued all day. Friday, the popular Children's Day, will see the singing and elocutionary competitions at the King Street Hall, and the dancing at the Show marquee. Saturday "Will be People's Day. The procession in the afternooni will this year include units from the Home Guard and the' Women's Auxiliary Corps, together with the decorated vehicles and children in fancy dress. Arrangements for the organs isation of the procession are in the hand's of Mr M. Penny, who is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that it willi be 'the best ever.' The Show,, generally, promises to be a splendid district effort and should attract record; crowds in; spite of the times. The public is alSo reminded of the entertainment; programmes which will be run in the marquee by the Boys" Band (Wednesday) , the Pipers and dancers (Thursday), the School Children (Friday) and a combined* programme on Saturday.
