EROSION DANGER

MENACE TO MAIN HIGHWAY REFERENCE BY MAYOR The fact that at a recent meeting of the Chamber of Gommerae the danger of erosion near the main highway bridge over the Whakatan * River was revealed was mentioned at Monday's meeting' of the Borough Council by His Worship the Mayor. He stated that he had investigated. further and the river was cutting in badly, and it was a matter which effected the Borough vitally, although out of its area. His Worship suggested that a strong recommendation should be made to the Public Works Department regarding the danger, and the need of immediate remedy. The suggestion met with the unSlßfous approval of members and Sullivan took the opportunity"\of commenting that it was unfortunate) that the matter could not have been mentioned when the Minister visited the- town recently. Ho added that there had beefn no opportunity, as the Minister had not advised the Mayor of his proposed visit until a late hour. "It appears that the Ministers slip in and out of towns as fast as they can these days," he said, when regretting that they did not give the local bodies the opportunity to discuss such matters with them.
