YOUNG MAORI KILLED
STRUCK BY TAXI FATALITY AT POROPORO As a result of being struck, by a taxi Henare Bishop, a Maori youth aged l 19 years, of Poroi poro, sustained injuries on Wednesday night from which' he died l . The accident occurred at 7.5 p.m. and the victim died at the local hospital at about 8 .p.m. With a friend named Johnson, ! thei youth was cycling to Whakatane to attend the pictures, anrt when • about 400 yards on the Whakatane side of the Poroporo store, both cyclists were struck by one of Mr Johnson's taxis driven by Mr A. V. Raymond. Johnson was thrown clear and was uninjured, but Bishop re- ■ ceived extensive injuries receiving the brunt of the impact. He was removed to the hospital but sue,-, - cumbed within an hour. Inquest Opened. An inquest was opened before Mr G. A. Brabant, district coroner, -yesterday morning and after evidence of identification given by the •youth's grandfather, Mr Warito ' Watarawi, was adjourned sine die.
