GENTLEMEN AT DANCES

Sir, —I note the comments of your contributor Unome regarding the' de*. partment of young men at dances, as seen at a recent dance held iri the Winter Show Building, Not being a frequenter of dance halls it sur .orises me to learn that there are still young men going to dances. I thought they were all in khaki. Who are these gutn-chewers referred to by your (contributor' ? If they can smoke at the door between dances and exude an odour of stale beer them they must be old enough to go overseas. If they are to be in the Army then they have no right to be at dances but should be in bed growing strong enough to act as soldiers later on. If they can shuffle round the floor all night then they must be physically fit enough to pass the metlical test for the Army. If they have family responsibilities that prevemt them being in khalci then they should be at home instead of at dances. There" fore, I cannot imagine who these local gallants can be. Perhaps the Bea'con can illuminate this fogginess. Yours etc., OLD TIMER.
