IN THE DARK

Sir, —Several correspondents state they are "In the Dark'" over matters relating to the Home Guard. It appears to me, there are also millions more, well and truly "in the dark" and likely to be for some considerable period. Only a severe and disasteirous economic "earthquake" will ever get the majority out of the dark. It is due to the ignoranice of the masses 'and their selection of leaders, that we get these periodical outfits called wars. No new world orders can be established, while production of everything from a baby'*? feeding bottle to a coffin is produced; only for profit. Profit for a small percentage of population in any country. Apart from this, is the fact,, that Governments tax those goods to the utmost to find money for these periodical bouts. Mussolini, Hitler or any other leader cannot change the old well worn system. Only the old parcel with a new label. Systems of production for private profit, inevitably md up in strife and war, whether Hitler and Mussolini had never been born. No truer saying than what we sow, we reap. Therefore, as tha monkey said, It is not all gold that glitters.. Gentlemen "in the dark," please remember next time you; fill up your waistcoat pocket with one pounds worth, of groceries, that we still owe cne thousand million pounds in this little country and the Government are keeping it in the dark just now. Something for the "boys" -to think about later. Anvhow, why worry about a few -birds who have' not joined the Home Guard,, when we have got the right leaders who can break the camel's back. Yours etc., STANLEY EVANS, Whakatane.
