THE PIPE BAND

Sir,, —I think "Sporran" is in need of the nom de plume he suggests Cor me, as I have made inquiries und I've been advised that the "Whakatane and Opotiki parades for Ansae Day were both discussed at the same meeting, and it might surprise "Sporran"' to know that band members a'supposed" to get two 'fuH"_ -weeks notice of coming events."! also wish to advise "Sporran" that "Wake Up Pipe Band" is & lady, an admirer of the true scot and a lover of bagpipes. Can "Sporran" enlighten me why some of the band members are so anxious to get to Opotiki, and why was one of the drummers on Home Guard parade without his drum, was he in a trance too. Yours etc., WAKE UP PIPE BAND. Sir, —I cannot understand the mentality of the person who continues to senselessly criticise our splendid Pipe Band. Visitors from the larger towns have remarked on its smartness and efficiency and I personally consider that Whakatane is most fortunate in possessing such an organisation. I have never known an occasion when it has turned down a deserving cause -and to perpetually enjoin it to 'Wake Up* seems to me r.ot only absurd and ridiculous but also as though someone has an axe to grind. J would ask your correspondent if I am right in this surmise? If not I am a bad guesser but not quite so bad as your correspondent over the critical nom-* de-plume-Yours etc., COMMON SENSE.
